    Organic Tumeric Powder (Curcuma longa)

    Rated 5.00 out of 5
    (1)

    Botanical Name: Curcuma longa
    Certified Organic
    Origin: India

Production: Our Turmeric is grown in the state of Odisha, in India. The whole turmeric fingers are harvested, cleaned and then dried in solar and/or electric dryers reaching a maximum temperature of 32 degrees celsius. It is then tumbled by machine for up to 6 hours, in order to remove the skin, a process called “double polished”. Once skins are removed, the turmeric is ground into powder.  Turmeric root, also known as Indian saffron, or the “Spice of Life”, is the rhizome of an herbaceous perennial plant native to India, and is in the same family as ginger. The rhizome is used fresh, or dried then cut in chunks or ground into powder, and is used in many medicinal and culinary applications.

Qualities: Turmeric is considered a powerful antioxidant due to its curcumin content and its long list of health attributes including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, neuroprotective, immune balancing, and detoxifying properties. In Ayurvedic medicine it is also used topically to treat skin problems and infection and to relieve joint pain. Although curcumin can also be found in extract form, the advantage of turmeric as a whole herb is that it stays in the digestive tract longer, releasing curcumin along with other beneficial substances over more time, instead of passing through the system unnoticed by the body.

Common Use: As a spice, turmeric has been a staple in south Asian cuisines and is appreciated for its warm, peppery, and slightly bitter taste and strong yellow colour which can be incorporated in a multitude of recipes, including stir-fries, baked goods, smoothies, juices, teas, or taken in capsule form. It is recommended to consume Turmeric with a source of fat in order to increase absorption of its health properties as well as with a pinch of black pepper which contains Piperine, a natural substance that can boost the bioavailability of curcumin by 2000%. (reference: http://nutritionfacts.org/video/boosting-the-bioavailability-of-curcumin/)
The intense golden color of turmeric is a widely used in food (curry powders, mustard, cheese, etc), cosmetics, and even used as a fabric dye.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.

Safety: We recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using any herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medications.

    Botanical Name: Ilex paraguariensis
    Certified Organic
    Country of Origin: Brazil
Production: Yerba Mate belongs to the Aquifoliaceae family, which is originally from the subtropical regions of South America, but is also present in the southern region of Brazil, and in the northern regions of Argentina and Paraguay. Our mate is grown in Brazil, in the wild among the local plants and animals, and is harvested every 2 years in alternating patches, so as to ensure a well developed plant and nutritional profile, with the intention of preserving the sustainability of the area. It was first consumed by the indigenous Guaraní and Quechua people who drank tea made from the leaves. Mate can also be prepared with cold water or lemonade (called tereré).
Internationally, mate is enjoyed as a tea, in the traditional vessel or in tea bags. It has a bitter, yet refreshing flavor and is a well-balanced stimulant that provides energy and nutrition. The caffeine content of yerba mate varies between that of green tea and coffee. It can be prepared with milk, honey, lemon, mint, and many more delicious combinations.

    Organic Bee Pollen (Apis Mellifica)

    0 out of 5
    (0)

    Botanical Name: Apis mellifica
    Certification: EU organic*
    Origin: Spain
Production: This raw bee pollen was collected from Cistus blossoms (aka Rock Rose). Beekeepers then ethically harvest the pollen by gently removing it from the hives without harming the bees or disturbing their routine. The pollen is carefully dried in the open air to retain optimal nutritional integrity. During the collection process, the pollen is never heated or ground up resulting in an extremely high-quality pollen which is completely natural and raw.
Bee pollen is sometimes called “Nature’s gold”. Just imagine, one teaspoon of pollen takes one single bee eight hours a day for one month to gather! Each bee pollen granule contains over two million grains of flower pollen and one teaspoonful contains over 2.5 billion grains of flower pollen. Consume mindfully and gratefully!
Bee pollen is considered one of nature’s most complete foods as it contains nearly all nutrients required by humans. Bee pollen is rich in protein (approximately 40%), with easy to assimilate amino acids, and many vitamins, including B-complex and folic acid as well as a multitude of antioxidant flavonoids, such as myricetin, quercetin, rutin, and trans-cinnamic acid.

Over the centuries, bee pollen has been appreciated for its many uses:
    –  general energy booster, enhancing stamina and fighting off fatigue
    –  cardiovascular support attributed to potent anti-clotting powers and high content of rutin, an antioxidant bioflavonoid that helps strengthen blood vessels and may correct cholesterol levels
    –  respiratory support due to anti-inflammatory properties which may help with allergies and asthma
    –  digestive support, as it contains enzymes that can aid in digestion and improve the intestinal flora
    –  immune support related to antibiotic-type properties and high content of antioxidants that may protect the cells from the damaging oxidation of free radicals

Safety: Bee pollen appears to be safe for most individuals but if you have any pollen allergies, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or use blood thinning medications, please consult your healthcare provider before use.
Common Use: Start with one teaspoon, preferably taken with a piece of fruit, as the fruit fibers (raw hemicellulose) reinforce the activity of the fresh pollen. Increase your intake every day by a few grains until reaching two teaspoons a day (10 ml). For normal daily intake, you may take up to one tablespoon (15 ml), daily. Bee pollen has a slightly sweet, chalky taste and it can be added to smoothies, salads, cereal, or enjoyed in any way, preferably kept raw.
Storage: Store in a cool, dark, dry place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required but recommended.

*NOTE: Because of inter-governmental bureaucracy, when organic products with EU organic certification are not imported directly into the USA (imported into Canada first) they are not allowed to be named “organic” even though USA and the EU have an “equivalency agreement” for organic standards.
