Production: Our Turmeric is grown in the state of Odisha, in India. The whole turmeric fingers are harvested, cleaned and then dried in solar and/or electric dryers reaching a maximum temperature of 32 degrees celsius. It is then tumbled by machine for up to 6 hours, in order to remove the skin, a process called “double polished”. Once skins are removed, the turmeric is ground into powder. Turmeric root, also known as Indian saffron, or the “Spice of Life”, is the rhizome of an herbaceous perennial plant native to India, and is in the same family as ginger. The rhizome is used fresh, or dried then cut in chunks or ground into powder, and is used in many medicinal and culinary applications.
Qualities: Turmeric is considered a powerful antioxidant due to its curcumin content and its long list of health attributes including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, neuroprotective, immune balancing, and detoxifying properties. In Ayurvedic medicine it is also used topically to treat skin problems and infection and to relieve joint pain. Although curcumin can also be found in extract form, the advantage of turmeric as a whole herb is that it stays in the digestive tract longer, releasing curcumin along with other beneficial substances over more time, instead of passing through the system unnoticed by the body.
Common Use: As a spice, turmeric has been a staple in south Asian cuisines and is appreciated for its warm, peppery, and slightly bitter taste and strong yellow colour which can be incorporated in a multitude of recipes, including stir-fries, baked goods, smoothies, juices, teas, or taken in capsule form. Production: Hericium most often grows from the wood of dead or dying deciduous trees, often fallen oak, beech, or maple, from late summer to fall. It can be spotted on logs, on stumps, and sometimes in the wounds of living trees.
Qualities: Lion’s Mane is an edible mushroom known for its potential cognitive support, nervous system health benefits, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, digestive health support, immune system support, and potential as a nootropic.
Common Use: The most common method of consuming dried Lion’s Mane mushrooms is to make a tea. The tea can be prepared by simmering the mushroom in water for about three hours. Lion’s Mane can also be added to smoothies, and soups, which should be simmered for two to three hours as well.

Organic Cacao Powder (Theobroma Cacao)

Production: After the ripe pod has been cut from the tree, it is opened, the rind discarded, and the pulp and seeds laid out for several days. During this time the pulp liquefies or “sweats” and fermentation starts, which softens the bitter taste and helps to unlock the full aroma of the cacao bean. This fermentation process is usually followed by gently roasting the beans to enhance the chocolate aroma. The beans are then crushed and their thin skins removed so that only pieces or “nibs” remain. Cacao nibs are then ground into a thick brown liquid called cacao paste (aka cacao mass or liquor) which is made up of cacao butter (55-60%) and suspended fine cacao particles. This cacao paste is subsequently pressed until it separates into cacao butter and a cacao “cake” which is then ground to produce cacao powder.
Qualities: Cacao powder has the lowest fat content compared to all other cacao products. Cacao is believed to contain high amounts of antioxidants such as flavonoids, and many other nutrients and minerals like stearic and oleic fatty acid, anandamide (the bliss chemical), theobromine, manganese, zinc, copper, sulfur, PEA, and tryptophan. The list of cacao’s acclaimed health benefits is lengthy and includes anti-inflammatory and heart-protective properties, calming hormones, restoration of feelings of well-being, increased energy, fighting chronic fatigue, anti-aging, and appetite-suppressing properties, improved kidney and cognitive functions, skin and tooth protection, and more. No surprise the Incas considered cacao to the “drink of the gods” which gave rise to the scientific name of the cacao tree Theobroma cacao, theo, meaning god, and broma meaning drink. Cacao has been cultivated in Ecuador since the 17th century and was the main product of export up until the 1920s.
