What is CBD?

CBD (short for cannabidiol) is a non-intoxicating member of the phytocannabinoid family of chemical compounds that can be derived from the cannabis plant. All of the products sold through Bloomble are hemp-derived.

The Endocannabinoid System

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a recently discovered group of endogenous cannabinoid receptors found throughout the body. The endocannabinoid receptors that make up the ECS are located in our Central Nervous System (CNS), Peripheral Nervous System (PNS), and Immune System. Our CNS includes our brain and spinal cord, while the PNS acts as a communication network linking our CNS to the rest of our body.

Our brains contain the heaviest concentration of cannabinoid receptors, but there’s no shortage of them in our organs, tissues, glands, and more. The saturation of ECS receptors throughout our body is part of why CBD has so many uses and is so effective.

Cannabidiol (CBD)

Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, naturally occurs within the tiny hairlike structures known as trichomes that grow on hemp and cannabis. The first cannabinoid molecule to be discovered in 1940, researchers have been studying CBD’s numerous health benefits ever since.

Cannabidiol exists in two states, CBD and CBD-a. Both are being studied to discover their individual effects on the body. CBD-a, which grows directly on hemp and cannabis, shows a great potential for different types of treatment. However, its effects haven’t been researched as extensively as CBD. When CBD-a is heated to 248°F, it loses its acid chain in a process called decarboxylation (also referred to as “activation”) and becomes CBD. All CBD products go through this process. CBD has been well studied and has a more pronounced effect than CBD-a due to more efficiently binding to the body’s Cannabidiol receptors.

As an organic product, CBD is a safer, natural alternative to synthetic options. In hemp’s multi-thousand-year history, there has never been a recorded fatality. While CBD has been shown to be non-toxic even at extreme doses, you should consult your doctor if you plan on taking more than 300mg in a 24 hour period.

Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are a group of chemical compounds that are found in–but not exclusive to– cannabis. You can derive phytocannabinoids from pine needles and hops. Our body makes cannabinoids called endocannabinoids and act within the endocannabinoid system. At least 100 cannabinoids have been isolated from cannabis, but the most commonly recognized ones are cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

How Much CBD Should I Take?

Because of the lack of in-depth research of cannabis, there is no uniform serving size for CBD. What may be ideal for one person might not be sufficient for others. Your serving size will be dependent on your body weight, individual body chemistry and concentration of the CBD product you’re consuming.

We recommend using a small amount of CBD to start and adjusting as needed.

What is Decarboxylation?

Decarboxylation is sometimes referred to as “activating” the chemical compounds found in hemp and cannabis.

Decarboxylation is a chemical reaction that happens during the extraction process when CBDA is heated to 248°F. Decarboxylation will happen above and below 248°F but without the same efficiency. When CBDA reaches 248°F the carboxyl group (COOH) breaks away and is replaced by a proton. This step is important, as the decarboxylation of CBDA to CBD is critical to ensuring that the CBD present in our products have the desired effects within the endocannabinoid system.

Is CBD Psychoactive?

One could argue that CBD meets the definition of being psychoactive, as does any substance that affects your mind and behavior.

However, CBD is non-intoxicating. Unlike THC, it does not produce a high, cravings, compulsive use or withdrawal effects. There are also no reported instances of drug abuse with CBD.

What is the Difference Between Hemp Oil and CBD Extracts?

While hemp seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant, hemp oil is a product derived from the leaves, buds and stalks of the hemp plant. As a result, hemp oil products have a much greater concentration of CBD than hemp seed oil products.

What Are The Benefits of CBD?

FDA DISCLOSURE:  In accordance with federal regulation we cannot make health claims regarding our dietary supplements. We can only recommend our products for general wellness.  Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any disease.

Are CBD and THC the Same Thing?

No. There are over 100 known cannabinoids, each with their own effect on the body. Though THC and CBD have similar chemical composition, their atoms are arranged differently. Because of the way THC is arranged molecularly, it is the perfect compound for interaction with Cannaboid 1 (CB1) receptors. This connection is the one that provides an intoxicating effect to the brain. CBD, however, is not a good connector to CB1. Instead, CBD connects with CB2 receptor. This produces a completely different effect on the body.

Is CBD Legal?

Hemp products that contain CBD are currently and successfully brought to market in all 50 states. We encourage users to always check with your local government, police department, or customs office for the most up to date information regarding the legality of CBD in your area before purchase. This answer should not be considered legal advice, so we strongly recommend that you check with your own local administration to ensure that you are happy with the level of legality of consuming these products before you buy them.

Can I Buy CBD From Anywhere in the United States?

Popular CBD brands currently make products available across the country. Laws are constantly being updated, so we strongly recommend that you check with your local administration to ensure you are comfortable with the level of legality of consuming hemp CBD products before you buy them.

Why Is There A Grapefruit Warning?

CBD and grapefruit share a similar enzyme which can affect how your body processes certain medications. Always check with your physician before starting a new dietary supplement program. If you have received specific instructions from a medical professional regarding grapefruit, please treat any CBD products with the same caution.
